FEDERAL ELECTIONS
A QUIET CAMPAIGN.
LITTLE ENTHUSIASM SHOWN. THE MAIN ARGUMENTS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received. Oct. 22, 9.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 22. Th Federal election campaign is proceeding steadily and quietly, with grim determination on both sides. So far enthusiasm has been languid. Communism and its terrors, to which it is claimed the Labour policy is leading the country, is the Nationalists’ best-beaten joss, while Labour is busily repelling the charge as political cant. A strong argument is that if the Nationalists succeed in strangling Labour’s legitimate aspirations, as it is alleged they aim at doing, Labour will be driven to extreme measures to preserve its existence, and the Communistic bogey raised by the Nationalists will become a reality.
Mr Bruce (Nationalist), after stumping Queensland and Northern New South Wales, is now touring the southern and western States, with Mr Charlton (Labour) close at his heels, counterblasting his utterances.
