The New Plymouth Harbour Board is proceeding with the work of removing the wreck of the Hawea which foundered in the harbour, close to where the new wharf has been built, in 1888. A number of interesting relics have been recovered from the wreck, and a large quantity of iron plates and heavy timbering has been removed. An unusually largo amount of brass and lead piping in good condition has been found and also mauy fine brass portholes, some with the Hass still intact have been brought up. Considering that all the articles have | been under water for 37 years they are in a remarkable state of preservation.
