SOCIAL AND DANCE
The social and dance in aid of the Country candidate was a wonderful success, and the very large assemblage had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The “uglv men’s board,” in charge of lom Guy, nrovided a good deal of amusement, and business was brisk., Mies M. Lay’s dancing class was present and several splendid exhibitions of fanev dancing were given, each dance being recalled. After the “Wood Nymphs” dance the Country candidate presented each girl with a box of chocolates. The dances bv Miss Peddar and Miss G. Lay were "well received. Of the eloeutionarv items Joyce Goodwin’s “Trip to Blackpool” was easily the best. Little June Goodwin delighted the audience with two recitations, while Eila Gunderson also gave a recitation. As an encore number Eila gave Ron. West’s short poem. “The Country Queen,” and considering the fact that she had only a few minutes to learn it in the hall" she did remarkably well, and received a well-deserved ovation. Ken. Shame’s orchestra supplied the music for the dance, while Mr Burrows capably officiated as M.C. The concert nrograinme was in the hands of Messrs W. Hawkins and A. Thomas, and it is understood that the programme will be repeated at Ohangai on Wednesday night. The Matapu committee will hold another great social and dance on the 30th. the night before the end of the carnival.
