A motor car driven by Lui Paewai, of All Black fame, containing three other occupants, capsized in Norsewood district yesterday, after striking a bank and turning a couple of somersaults. Paewai is now in hospital suffering froan facial injuries, which aie not considered serious, while Henry James Webster, the only other one to be injured, is in hospital suffering from a damaged hack. INJURED WHEN GIG CAPSIZED. AUCKLAND, Oct. 19. The capsizing of a gig resulted in Mr. J. MoQuoid, of Avondale, aged 55 years, sustaining a fractured skull. He was driving the gig when the horse bolted. He remains unconscious in the hospital and his condition is serious. COUNTRY STORE BURNT. EKETAHUNA, Oct. 19. -INJURED IN COLLISION. HAMILTON, Oct. 19. As a result of a collision between a car and a motor cycle, a young man named G. Latta, employed by the Public Works Department, sustained a compound fracture of the right leg. CHANCE TO LEARN A TRADE. PALMERSTON N., Oct. 19. Lionel Ellis Carroll, the son of well-to-do Svdney people, aged 22 years, pleaded ‘ guilty at the Magistrate’s Court to four charges arising out or tendering valueless cheques here. Accused had been before the court previously °n charges of -breaking, entering and theft, and was admitted to probation. Obtaining possession of a chequebook on his arrival at Palmerston North, the accused visited several shops,' purchasing articles and receiving change after tendering a cheque of usually £lO. The accused asked if he could lie given a chance to learn a trade. The magistrate -sentenced him to reformative detention for two years on the first charge. On the others he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, saying that the accused could- learn a trade now.
