. VESSEL IN A GALE. CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE. (BY' TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 17. The American cargo steamer Westcalera, which arrived from Los Angeles to-day, ran into a hurricane on September 27. A number of big seas was shipped, and th© decks were continually flooded. Two boats were washed out of the chocks, and part of the lumber cargo was displaced. Cabins and the galley were flooded, the ventilators carried away, and the crew’s quarters were also flooded. After the vessel had been hove-to for 12 hours the gal© moderated, and fine weather prevailed for the rest of the voyage.
