“CORRIGAN CHARGES.”

APPOINTMENT OF J’S.P. A LETTER FROM SIR JAMES PARR. \ In connection with his allegation of unfair treatment from the Justice Department in the matter of the appointment of Justices of the Peace after Inst election, and Sir James Parr’s reply thereto, Mr J. R. Corrigan, M.P., to-day brought to the Star office a letter from Sir James, dated May 30, 1925, and reading last follows: —“In accordance with the request contained in your letter of the 20th inst> I forward herewith a list showing the names of gentlemen submitted by you for appointment to the Commission of Peace, and also showing the action taken in regard to each nominee.” Mr Corrigan assures ’ us that the names on the list are in the same order as on the list submitted by him, concerning which the Minister said lastweek: “If those appointed are Reformers, Mr Corrigan is responsible, as he nominated them and gave them first place on his list.” The list attached to Sir James’s letter and produced by Mr Corrigan does not confirm this, while Mr Corrigan repeats' his earlier statement that all the Reformers on [his list —and only Reformers —were appointed. The first two names on the list sent by the Minister to the member for Paten are those of Messrs E. Morrissey and E. A. Pacey. both of Hawera, neither of whom was appointed. The third was a Kakaramea resident, who also was not appointed. The fourth, fifth and sixth on the list, who were all appointed,, were from Hawera, Whenakura and Kai Iw.i respectively. Then follow six more who. were not appointed, from Kai Iwi, Alton. Waverley, Waverley, Moumahaki and Opakau. The next gentleman on the list was already a J.P., and the next following, from Waverley, declined appointment, and the hast two names on the list were those of an UppgrWaitotara and a Moewatea Valley resident, both of whom were appointed.
