QUEEN CARNIVAL.

TO-DAY’S POSITION. The positions of the candidates now stands: — SCOTTISH 1 SPORTS 2 , COUNTRY 3 CAMPAIGN NOTES.

Although the previous shop day held by the Country candidate’s committee fell rather flat from lack of support by the coutnry people, the 'organisation, has impitoved greatly, and a very large amount of produce was brought in for the sale to-day. A dance held at Matapu last evening in aid of the Country candidate was. an outstanding success.' Items were given by -Misses Peddar, Lay, Joyce and June Goodwin, and Gundeson, and all were very favourably received. The twelve little tots in their dance received a great reception. It is proposed to hold a similar function in a fortnight. The Sports’ candidate’s concert party achieved a great success at Tawhiti last evening. There was a large audience, and everv item was thoroughly enjoyed, for all the performers were at tehir best. After the concert a dance was held. The concert party lias the following engagements for next week: —Whareroa on Monday evening; Alton, by special, request, Wednesday evening and Pihama on Friday evening. ; A concert and dance in aid of the country candidate will be held at Ohangai on Wednesday. This function is expected to be very successful, as the concert items will be very good.

The social and dance held at Okaiawawas a successful one. The Hawera Municipal and Ladies’ Bands were present, and also a number of Hawera performers.
