Oh! ifhe hair that, from .that head flowed down in streams of rippling gold— A gold like only to the ripened corn, That, glinting in the sunlight- when the summer’s days have rolled," .Still holds the early splendour of the morn. It held the vivid tints of youth—the fire, the strength, the light— l The joy that hides a glimpse of beauty rare. The soft, pale shades of dawn, the golden red that fomes at night, Held interwoven, witching riot there. ( •' , ' • - : ’ 1 . .r. A sunbeam, glinting on it, lit up every golden thread To leap and shimmer in a joyous play. . - Free gift of Nature’s lavish hand. But, Ah! How quickly shed! A priceless gift for ever thrown away.
