BEFORE APPEAL COURT.
ECHO OF MOUAT TRIAL CONTEMPT OF COURT ALLEGED. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. The Appeal Court was engaged today hearing a motion by the AttorneyGeneral to attach Thomas Edward Robson, of Addington, Christchurch, and commit him to prison for publishing in the newspaper Star in August last certain matter in relation to one Lucy Prosser, a witness in the Mouatt case, calculated to prejudice or interfere wtih the administration of justice. A similar motion was made against the publisher of the Sun newspaper for alleged contempt, arising out of a paragraph which was quoted by the Star.
The Attorney-General said that the matter liad been brought before tlie court by the direction of the judge. The paragraph, which was headed “Smiles for Mowat,” was considered to be a grave interference with the trial, as the witness concerned was an important one, having identified Mrs. Mount’s clbtlies. The comment was more than a suggestion that the witness was favourable to the prisoner. Argument has not finished.
