BOWLING

OPENING OF PARK GREEN

. Weather conditions were adverse for the opening of the season, at the Park Bowling Club, and the programme was to some extent marred by the rain that fell in the middle of the afternoon. There was a good attendance, including visitors from Manaia, Stratford, Eltham, Patea, Pihama, and Hawera Clubs.

The time honoured ceremony of throwing the jack for the first time was performed by Mrs W. Grant, after the .season had, in a short speech, been duly declared open by Mr Grant, the club’s popular president. Rink play then began between selected players, but it had- not advanced long before rain caused its abandonment. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the ladies, and the remainder of the afternoon was spent pleasantly in the pavilion. The season promises well, the membership being strong.
