The weather for the Caulfield races was fine and bright and the attendance was good. The State Governor was present. In the Hurdles the imported Cliapparal was prominent throughout, and won brilliantly. 'The New Zealander, Olympia, was a bad last all the way. In the eary stages of the Nursery Bright Star was sixth, but finished well and won the event. Bright Star cost 80 guineas as a yearling. Heroic’s brother, Thracian, was fourth. Royal Charter, "though last at the beginning of the contest for the .Power Stakes, succeeded in winning from Heroic, who hung out. badly in the straight. The last mile was covered in Imin. 40sec. The pace was slow at the start. There was a hostile demonstration against Hemic. Duncan rode Bright Star and Royal Charter. Resists: —

The Moonga Handicap was an exciting contest, Ben Loraand coming up from eighth to win with a good run. The winner was imported by its trainerowner, Mr James Hayes, last year. Valwyne, always well placed, won the Coongy Handicap from the fastfinishing Stralla. The New Zealand jocltev, Ashley Reed, rode Valwyne. In " the Welter Handicap Jimmie B was fourth at the turn, but finished best, arid gave Duncan bis third w'in of the afternoon.
