Die deceased was a general favourite w.tii ai , and was noted lor her pleasant, kindly disposition, especially aiuongst her schoolmates. About two years ago site was crowned queen ot tne Manaia Public School carniva- at !t . verv large gathering ' held in the Manaia Town Hall. The carnival, which was on a large seac, was promoted bv the then 'headmaster of the Maiiaia State School, Air Adams, now oi’.Matapu, and was a great success iinanc.nhy. Mi - and Airs Rei. indeed, nave had’ their share of misfortune, this being the second death in the family within the last few m-onths. the titnoral wil' take place to-morrow (Thursday) afternoon at 2 c’clp'ek.
LIBRARY. Tiie usual monthly meeting of the Library -Committee was held last evening, at which there were present: Messrs T. A. Bridge (chair), A. Boynton, AY. Snowden. \Y. Vincent, J. A. G. Cosgrove, B. Badland -and J. Forrester.
Business in connection with the library was transacted, including a hearty vote of thanks to Mr A. G. Bennett for his annual donation of bn-oks, which were much appreciated.
The librarian "reported that oyer 80 new volumes had been placed in the library during the last four weeks. 'The monthly accounts were passed for payment.
TENNIS AND CROQUET CLUB. The Manaia Tennis and Croquet Club's 'annual meeting was held in Mr. Bennett's office on Monday evening, when the president, Air. Ryan, presided over a large attendance of members. Before commencing the business of the evening the president moved a vote i f sympathy with Mrs. Armit-age and family in their recent Bereavement. The motion wa.s carried in silence. From all points of view the psuH season was very .successful. The club •oeinfc.ership totalled 7-t and many enjovable matches were played against other club teams. The croquet section competed at the Taranaki tournament and Mr<s. Armitage woo the handicap
singles, Alesdames Snowdon and McKay the handicap doubles, and Airs. McKay and Air. Cl ague were runnels up ih the doubles championship. , The club’s position financially had improved. The debit balance having been reduced by £3O. Thanks to the woik of the caretaker and grounds committee, the courts' were in first-class order and should be consistently goou through out the season. 1 The election > of officers resulted as follows.— -Patron, Mr G. Bennett; president, Mr B. AI. Hannah, vice-president, D-r. Davies; joint secretaries, Messrs Young and A emit age; general committee Mrs AcniUge, Mr. CTague, Mrs. Meuli, Mrs. Paynter, Rev. Mr. Smith ; club captain. Air. G. H. Aleuli ;• auditor. Mr. Hannah. A large number ot new members were elected.
