♦ SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A largely-attended meeting of the General Committee of the soldiers’ memorial scheme was* held in the Council Chambers last night, and much interest was manifested in the various schemes for raising the necessary funds. Three combinations of committees have now been appointed, and are nominating a. rosebud in connection with‘the Rosebud Carnival. Each committee has already met, and has arranged a large number of “stunts” in aid of their candidate. The Friendly Societies’ committee commences the campaign on Saturday next, and the Spjorts committee is almost ready to start. The Glenis Committee met last night, and selected Glenis Fountain© as its rosebud. The Rev. W. Avery was appointed chairman and. Mr R. Garden secretary of the committee. Numerous activities were planned, and the campaign starts to-night after the political meeting in ,the Town Hall. It was decided that the chairman of the Memorial Committee (Mr I. J. Bridger) and the secretary (Mr F. F. Maynard) he an executive committee to control the carnival. It was also decided that the original memorial committee be. the executive of the Soldiers’ Memorial Committee.
