ELECTION OF OFFICERS. CONFERENCE OF JUSTICES OF THE PEACE. (BY TELEGRAPH —I*KF,SS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 14. The atmosphere of the annual conference of the Federation of the Honorary Justices’ Association of New Zealand, held at Christchurch yesterday, became somewhat heated last night, when the subject of amendments to the rules came up. At present the rules state that the council, shall elect the officers of the federation from among their own members. " 1 The registrar (Mr I. Salek) proposed, that the conference should elect its officers. The subject was debated for. an hour, the Auckland v members contending that it was robbing the council of its powers. Many atteinpts were made to clear the air, and finally a resolution was carried that the debate on the subject be adjourned until next day. “Well, you can run your affairs your own wav, just as you like,” said Mr Salek.
“Have we your permission to retire?” asked the Auckland delegates. The chairman granted permission, and the Auckland members left the room.
