GOODS IN! A GRAVEYARD. (BY TELEGRAPH.— i?REBS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 13. A young man who had been arrested on a charge, qf burglary took detectives to an old .tomb in, Symonds Street cemetery;, where they found two gramophones and a violin, alleged to have been stolen from .the Lyric Talkeries. The vault showed evidence of habitation. In another part of the cemetery a detective found more property behind a tombstone. Frederick Oswald Sakey, aged 33, appeared at the Police Court this morn - ing .and was charged with breaking, entering and theft. He was remanded to October 22.
DIED FROM EATING A MOTHBALL
WANGANUI, Oct. 13. Patricia Caroline Howard, aged nearly three, ate a mothball in mistake for a lolly on October 7. A doctor was summoned and a stomach pump used, andi the chid appeared to he all right. Two days later she developed other symptoms and died. The inquest disclosed that the active ingredient in the mothball was naphtholene, which was not well recognised as being a poison. CARGO SHIP HELD UP. GREYMOUTH, Oct. 13. The Kaiapoi, timber-laden for Sydney, was about to sail this morning, when the firemen declined to work unless two trimmers were engaged. The matter was referred to the Wellington office, and meanwhile the ship is held up. INJURED MAN. DUNEDIN, Oct. 13. William Stewart, married, aged 50. was found lying in the street suffering from severe concussion. The cause of his injury was not known. WOOL STORE BURNT. WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. A wool store owned by Thomas Bourke in Wellington road, Kilbirnie, was completely gutted by fire in the early hours of this morning. Some 250 hales of wool which were awaiting shipment to London were badly damaged. Although the brigade was quickly on the scene it was found impossible to save the building.' It was not till 10 o’clock that the outbreak was suppressed. The occupier is Michael Francis Bourke, and he had in store in the shed 300 bales of wool, which were purchased at the last Wellington sales, awaiting shipment to London. They were to have been shipped by the Tainui, but owing to the strike their dispatch was delayed. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The building was insured in the North British Mercantile for £400,. and the contents for £SOOO.
