A SCARCE ARTICLE.

N.Z. BUTTER AT HOME. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Oct. 11. The butter position continues to be serious for consumers, as supplies are steadily diminishing, especially of first grade. There is a marked shortage of the best butter, and buyers are compelled to turn their attention to secondary descriptions, the prices of which are very high considering their quality. New Zealand, good to. fine, is being quoted at 216 s to 2205, and Australian ditto at 206 s to 2145.

News of the departure from New Zealand of the Ruahine with 136,000 boxes caused rather a quieter demand this Aveek, but traders recognise that even if the strike terminates a great shortage of supplies between now. and the end of the year is inevitable.
