DAIRY INDUSTRY.
FACTORY PAY-OUT.
NOT TO BE REDUCED!
Advice has been received that the restriction in advance against dairy produce decided on by the associated banks last week, in view of the very serious position then ruling in the .shipping. of dairy produce, lias been removed for the time being, and that it will not be enforced for the September output. The baniis will therefore pay out on October 20 at the rate of one shilling and .sixpence per lb. The decision not to enforce the restriction has been arrived at because of [the much improved shipping outlook. | It is exceedingly good news to producers and to factory directors, and also to business people generally, for the curtailment of the advance would have been seriously felt all round. Un_ doubtedly this was a strong factor in bringing home to the whole of the district the serious nature of the position, and strengthened the country people in their decision to do everything in their power to overcome the difficulties created by the hold-up of the shipping. The banks- intimated last, week that if tire- strike* pon.tinned. the succeeding payments might be still less. Hj is sincerely to be hoped that there will be no further shipping trouble, because the country and the industry need all the help possible from favourable markets. Probably, however, the Suggestion of a reduced payment will have an indirectly useful effect and show everyone the urgent necessity for caution and economy. In a message sent by the Press Association from Wellington on the subject, it was stated that the banks would review the* position before the November pay-out.
