Y.M.C.A. BUILDING BURNT. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DARGAYILLE, Oct. 12. The Y.M.C.A. buildings at Pukelii, in which was housed the bilnard room, library, pictures hall, canteen and all other rooms connected with the Y.M.C.A. activities at the Public Works camp, was totally destroyed by fire last night. A church service was being held in the library when the outbreak was discovered. Everything but the piano and the engines used for supplying electric light was destroyed. The rooms were particularly well fitted up for the comfort of the men, and the loss will probably run into £IOOO. The insurances are not known. ALLEGED FORGERY. GISBORNE, Oct. „ 12. Following the arrest on warrants issuedl in various towns of the Dominion, Frederick William Bennett, alias Frank Gray, appeared at the Police Court this morning on several charges, including the forgery of the name of Kate Brett, of Takapuna, to a cheque of £2 ; forgery at Kaikoura of the name of E. Eccles to a cheque for £9; uttering a cheque and receiving £9 in change; theft at Hastings of a note, order and cheque totalling £3l; and the further theft of £l. The accused was remanded.
A £SO FINE. AUCKLAND, Oct. 12. .James Thomas Farguse, at the Police j Court, admitted keeping a common gaming house, where a large quantity of betting material was found. He was fined £sl and ordered to pay costs.
