A MATE UR CHAMPIONSHIPS. APPLICATION FROM OTAGO. (BY TELEGRAPH VREBS ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. At a meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Council Otago made application for the 1926 championship meeting, to he held in conjunction with Exhibition features. The letter, stated that a conference of centres at Wanganui had approved of the proposal, and the -championships were being advertised iu the Exhibition programme for March.
The council stated that it was premature to advertise the meeting, as Auckland had a claim, but might forego it in favour of Dunedin on account of the Exhibition. It was decided to reply that no allocations of championships cpuld be made at present.
AMERICAN VISIT CANCELLED. ROSE AND NURMI. WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. At the Amateur Athletic Council meeting it was stated that the Wellington Centre was prepared to guarantee £IOO towards the tour of a. team of American athletes. The chairman said the matter had been settled, and the council had decided to cancei negotiations for the tour in the meantime . A cable was received from Melbourne (Malvern Hamers), asking under what condition c would Rose visit Melbourne for a match with Hyde. Whyte and other champions. A reply had been that an endeavour was being made to match Rose with Nurmi, either by inducing Nurmi to visit New'' Zealand, or by sending Rose to Europe. In the circumstances, it was not advisable to enter upon arrangements for any Other tour.
