WRECK OF MERGANSER

YACHT SINKS ON SANDBAR. UNITT’S LUCKY ESCAPE RESCUED WITH LIFELINES. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRHIGT, (Received Oct. 6, 12.10 p.m.) LISBON, Oct. 5. In connection with the wreck of the small ship Merganser, it appears that Unitt tried to enter the small port of Caminha to replenish water and supplies without the aid of a pilot. The result was that he ran on to a sandbank. The sea immediately filled the Merganser, which sank. The wreck was seen by the local fishermen, who were unable, to approach owing to the rough seas. Lifelines were flung to the yacht. The Unitts were rescued. Mr Unitt suffered from'minor injuries, but his daughter was not hurt. The yacht was totally lost.—Reuter.
