LONDON, August 7. < The most remarkable exhibition -of tank evolutions yet seen.in Eng and was given at Jubilee Hall, Aldershot, by the crew of the Archer, the> tsuik selected for a speed test from the 50 tanks of an entirely new type which have now been built. The demonstration was 'witnessed by the London Territorials in training there. The advent of the Archer on th& scene was signalised by a roar like that of an aeroplane hying low, and the Territorials -saw the tank rush up the hill at a speed of nearly BO lines an hour and stop without dimculty within two yards.; These new Vickers light tanks, which weigh 10 tons, are equipped with Armstrong - Siddeley eight-cylinder Vshaped engines of 82 h.p., and the 4speed gearbox of the tank is one of the most efficient mechanical devices ever invented. , , . The Archer astonished the onlookers by its speed. Its pace on level ground reached 35 m.p.h. and across country 20 m.p.h. At these speeds it- can turn roilnd' in its own length and dAsh off in the opposite direction. It can crash through ‘trees and undergrowth and m-dunt steep slope s with consummate I ease.
