FATAL COLLISION AT CHRISTCHURCH. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 5. As a result of a collision with atramear last evening, James A. Boswell, a single man, received fatal injuries to his skull. He was riding a motor-cycle. A girl riding in the side, car had a miraculous escape, being throivn clear of the tram. A SUDDEN DEATH. GISBORNE, Oct., 5. At the inquest concerning the death of Raymond Thomas, who' dropped dead while showing visitors te the door after a social evening, the coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony that death wao from haemopysis, following tubercular disease of the lung. Evidence was given that deceased contracted the disease during his war service. BASIC WAGE REQUEST REFUSED. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 5. The Employers’ Federation, has. refused the request of the Canterbury General Labourers’ Union to co-operate in making a joint request to the Court, for an increase in the basic wage. ALLEGED THEFT. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 3. James Lawrenson, a young man employed at the post office, was charged this morning with the thfet of £'l6s from the Postmaster-General. He was remanded for ten days. The police said that other charges were pending. FIRE AT BULLS. MARTON, Oct. 5. A fire at Bulls on Sunday morning totally destroyed a cabinetmaker’s shop owned by C. M. Broughton, also the paint shop of A. Green. The adjoining premises were slightly damaged. The tosses were estimated to be: Mr Broughton, £900; Mr G'reeii, £4OO. The insurances are: Broughton’s building £4OO. stock and plant £275, in the State Office. Mr Green wa s not- insured.

CLAIM FOR, DAMAGES. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct, 5. Referring to proceedings in’ the Magistrate’s Court of a claim by Violet Emma Cassels, a married woman, and her infant daughter, for damages against Beatrice H. King, of Elm Grove, Linwood, maternity nurse, on the ground of negligent- and unskilful atention, it was alleged that conditions in the home were deplorable.
