TRUCKS DERAILED

ACCIDENT TO TRAIN. ON PRIVATE COMPANY’S LINE. PASSENGERS LUCKY ESCAPE. (.BY TELKGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION* AUCKLAND, Oct. 3. The Tauipo-Tatara Timber Company s train while rounding a curve ran into a mob of horses. Three empty wagons were derailed and completely smashed. A break in the coupling probably saved a loss of life. When the train stopped, the engine was across the Kopokarahi bridge, but the passenger van was overhanging a drop of 40 feet to the water-course below. The side of the van had to be broken in to extract the passengers, which included seven women. All were suffering from shock, but no one was injured.
