WHEAT HARVEST
EXTRA EDITION.
N.S.W. PROSPECTS. MARRED BY BAD WEATHER. •SP-ME CROPS RUINED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIA TION —COPYRIGHT (Received Oct. 2, 12.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 2. Prospects for a good harvest have been considerably reduced as a result of dry, windy conditions during September. Late .frosts have also been common in many districts. A good fall of rain, followed by seasonable warmth, is needed to revive the crops. In some districts in the western wheat belt the bulk of the area under wheat is past recovery, and a few owners are using those paddocks for feeding. Early and continuous wet conditions which waterlogged the soil after the crops had germinated caused them to become thin, spindly and poorly stooled. The prospects in' the Riverina are brighter, but. it is considered yields will not be up to last year.
