THE GR'ANfID —TO-NIGHT. “THE PAINTED FLAPPER.” A deep rooted research and an expose of the .peculiarities of the modern girl called the “tlupper” will be revealed when “The Taunted Flapper,” starring James Kirkwood and Pauline Gar on opens at The Grand to-night, it is an ultra modern story based on the present day American girl. The nucleus of the story is of a flaper who is precipitated into a series of intricate situations wheiein she cleverly manoeuvres her .sister out of a distasteful marriage and also extricates herself from a tight corner anc saves, her honour. “The Painted Flapper” is portrayed by Pauline Garon, and the man from abroad is played by Jam-as Kirkwood. Two very excellent comedies will be found on the .programme.

“Madonna of the Streets/.' featuring Nazimavfa and Milton Sills, opens at the Opera House to-morrow (Saturday) evening. The picture is the first the famous Russian actress lias appeared in since she deserted the cinema, lor vaudeville and the legitimate stage two years ago.. “Madonna of the Streets,” fa story of London, is taken from “The Ra gged Messenger, ’ ’ by W. G Maxwell, an English author of world-wide popularity. The picture is not only interesting in itself because ol its Story, but it allows both Nazim,ova and Sills to show their best acting ability Nazimova is cast in the role of the friend of a Fifth Avenue millionaire, who, cut off in his will when he leaves his vast fortune to John Morton of London, sets out. to make Mortem pay the ungrateful millionaire's debt to.* her Morton, played by Sills, receives the fortune and begins to give it away among the poor of Limehouse. H'ow it all works out is told in a powerful manner which finds > azimova registering with more dramatic ebect +han in anything slue has ever achieved before. This picture is presented an eio-ht reels and is preceded by a comedy ami the latest Beaumont Graphic.
