FASCIST TERRORISM
FEAR OMNIPRESENT.
PLIGHT OF NON-FASCISTS.
INVESTIGATOR’S INDICTMENT
3Y GABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT
(Received Oct. 1, 12.40 p.m.) LONDON, Sep. 30. Mr Redwood, in his third article on Italy, says: A visitor to Italy sees little of Fascist terrorism and much of hascist efficiency. Trains travel quicker, P 1 0" perty is safer, trade is expanding, but the terror is there and fear is omnipresent. Non-Fascists are often afraid of their lives, and are continually on the alert, owing to repeated raids and lootings. Many mayors, deputies l and labour leaders have been driven away, to steal hack at night to visit- their families. Fascism has gagged the press, made the elections a farce, forced the workers and peasants into its trade unions by violence and economic pressure. It has burned the labour exchanges to prevent non-Fascists from securing work, has dismissed nonFascist'’magistrates, and is now seeking to dismiss non-Fascist civil servants. It has created a dictatorship in municipalities, and has also appointed provincial chieftains who are often criminals, with authority over police and magistracy. Matteotti s murder was followed by. a series of outrages .amongst the Fascist on the most distinguished opponents. Fascists, acting under orders, twice assaulted Count Sperza, ex-Foreign Minister. They fired revolver shots at his wife, and" imprisoned his brother because he had Mass said in memory of Matteotti. They also assaulted Signor Orlando (ex-Premier), wrecked and looted the house of Signor Nitti (ex-Premier), and tivice attacked Signor Amendoja (ex-Minister for Colonies. “I have seen a letter Signor Mussolini wrote and signed, ordering a provincial prefect to make a well-known litterateur’s life imoossible. Peroiii, a Fascist militiaman, gave evidence that he attacked Amendola in obedience to the orders of Signor Mussolini and General Dehono. Director-General of Police. After this an. attempt was made to poison Peroni. There were also attempts to murder Deputies Forni and Misuri, who secede cl from Fascism.”—Sydney Sun Cable.
