POPULAR MISTRESS FAREWELLED;"' f ... :■ -The pupils, together with some of their parents and the teaching staff of the Kaponga School, assembled, at the school yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Miss A. Rawlinson, the infant mistress on the occasion of her departure to take up an appointment at Te Karae in" the North Auckland district. The headmaster (Mr. J. Bailie), who .presided, paid tribute to the efficient services Miss Rawlinson had rendered during the three years in which she had officiated at the school. He intimated that while Miss Rawlinson as a successful ' teacher had maintained fine, discipline and achieved excellent results in. training, she had at the same time earned the personal esteem and affection of her pupils, all of whom with their parents and the' teaching staff were exceedingly sorry that the school was losing her. They joined in dering sincere wishes to Miss Rawlmson for her future happiness and welfare, and wished her to accept a presentation as a memento of her association ■with them.

The presentation gifts, comprising a handsomely wrought hand mirror and an ivory mounted fan, were handed to Miss Rawlinson by Hilda Guy, one of the senior pupils. '■ • ■;* .• Miss Rawlinson v thanked -Mr. Bailie

and the gathering for their courteous - manifestations of esteem and for their generous gifts, which would serve in - „ future as fitting, reminders of the many happy days she had spent at Kaponga, •where her school duties, owing to the loyalty of her pupils, had always been attended with pleasure. • . She expressed. * her appreciation of the industrious application which those under her charge , had given to their school work,'and appealed to them to continue in that spirit so that .they would help her successor to train them with the best possible results. If they would do as she asked they.- would have 'cause; to}: be thankful for the benefit which would thus be received : from their studies, In conclusion, Miss Rawlinson said ijf occasioned her very great regret in parting from them, and she. hoped that.in the. , new school to which she was going her work would prove as pleasant as it had been at Kaponga". ■ Rousing cheers for the popular mistress concluded the ceremonies. ;

Miss Rawlinson- left Kaponga for New Plymouth last evening en route to Auckland.
