Blackmore, Superintendent of Tuberculosis Institutions of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. The lecture was preceded by a display of physical culture by I’.W.C.A. giris. Dr. Blackmore. alluding to Health Week, said that there must he constant benching of the 'public. His prescription for good health was eiean.incss—clean food (meaning pure food), clean surroundings, and dean lives. And there was that important essential, exercise. The lecturer referred to walking, which was becoming a lost art. Running, boxing, basketball, tennis and swimming were approved forms of sport-. But he did not recommend girls ap to 12 wears of age to play tennis, as there was a danger of curvature of the spine. He condemned relined cereal foods; for instance, white flour and rice. Appendicitis. bowel troubles, cancer and dental decay were almost unknown among savage people, who ate the natural products. Vegetables, when boiled, were deprived of certain essential minerals. He advocated the steaming of vegetables. Too much meat was eaten; more l'ruit and vegetables should he taken. Milk was ail excelcnt food, but much of it was infected with tuberculosis. I)r. Blackmore said that three meals a day were plenty. Eating between meals was bad, and tea was not an article of diet, as some people imagined.
