As a sequel to an accident on Karangahape Hoad, Auckland, 'on May 17, 1924, when Mrs. Kate Dowding was knocked down by a motor-car and died the same evening, the driver of the car, a youth of 17, whose name was suppressed, was charged yesterday with manslaughter. The ease had been delayed owing to the fact that shortly after the accident the accused went to Australia and only recently returned. He was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Charges of driving a ear without a license, failing to stop and give his name and address, and negligent driving were adjourned until after the Supreme Court trial. Although the name of Mr. T. K. Sidey is inseparably associated with the many attempts that have been made to' have daylight saving introduced into New Zealand, he was not the originator pf the proposal in Parliament. Speaking in the House of Representatives. Mr. Sidey remarked on the fact that he was usually referred to as the fattier of the Hill, but it was not generally known that the credit of introducing the first Bill on the subject in the House was due to the late Hon. C. H. Izard, M.L.C. Mr Tzaid introduced such a measure shortly after his election for Wellington North in 1906, but he preferred I not to sneak on it. and simply moved that it he referred to a committee of tlie House.
