KING’S REPRESENTATIVE
LOCAL GOVERNORS.
AN OFFICIAL VIEWPOINT. ONE OBJECTION RAISED. BY CABLE—-DRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Sept. 25, 9.55 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 24. The following is stated to be an authoritative British view outlining tlxe Colonial Office’s probable attitude towards the Australian States’ proposal to appoint local governors:—“As the growth and constitution of the Empire develops, there is no reason why the Dominions should not so act. The position is not the prerogative of the Britisher, and ally member of the Emmie is equally able to represent the King, but the Colonial Office is .somewhat charv of the appointment of a local man, whose past .record is bound to include some remark al'ying him to a particular party or cause, thereby al'owing a loophole to opponents to declare that- he is. biased when called on to make an important decision, such asS the granting of a political dissolution.” —Sydney Sim Cake.
