HOTEL MYSTERY.
AUSTRALIAN NOT CONCERNED. NO ARREST MADE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Sept. 24.. In connection with the murder in Batavia of Mrs H. Campbell Mac Fie, wife of the Spanish Consul at Sydney, Kirton and Earnshaw, contractors in the city, have received a. cable from the International Credit Company, Samarang, stating that Bernard Kirton had not been arrested on suspicion of murdering Mrs Mac Fie. The cable added that the Dutch police had specially requested him to remain in Sourabaya because' he had travelled from Singapore- to Java on the same boat as Mrs Mac Fie. They also received a cable from Kirton, status that the Dutch Government had asked him to stay in case he was able to assist in unravelling the mystery of the murder. WELTEVREiDEN, Sept. 24. The Attorney-General, in-a statement, says the fact that Kirton has been obliged to delay his departure for Australia. must not lead to the conclusion that Kirton ds in any "way involved in the murder of Mrs Mao Fie. SYDNEY, Sept. 24.. Mrs Macfie’s maiden name was Sofia. Her family lived a number of years in New Zealand before going to Sandringham, Victoria. Mr Macfie was at one time, on the staff of the Sydney Herald, and was later one of the founders of another Sydney daily paper.
