CARNIVAL FIXTURES.
GrilLiDlllEK'S FANCY DRESS BALL.
To-morrow (Friday) night will see an important social event of the carnival season, when the children’s ball, in aid of the Scottish Queen Carnival, will be bend in the Winter Show ballroom. A spectacle of interest is guaranteed t«. patrons, <n viewing the kaleidoscopic showing of colours in the children’s costumes and .special lighting effects. This will be especially notable ’in the. grand march led by pipers in full Highland costume. Dances beloved by the junior citizens of the town will be the order of the night until 10.30 o’clock, when a good supper wiM be provided for them, which adults may partake of on payment of a small extra sum. Dances for grown-ups will then be in order until the morning hours.
POSITION OF CANDIDATES. The Country candidate’s flag still flies at the top of the flagstaff, with the Sports candidate second and the Scottish candidate third. As a curtain-raiser to the Rugby game on Saturday in connection with the Queen Carnival and Technical School’s Rugby tour, the Hawera Technical High School will play a match. The Scottish candidate’s concert party visited Auroa last evening. The function was a great success, ancl the funds of the committee were considerably augmented by the large attendance. The audience was very enthusiastic, and the programme submitted was much appreciated. The country candidate’s shop will not he held on Saturday next, as previously stated, but on the following Saturday, October 3.
