FIRE.
BIG BLAZE AT ROTORUA. (.BV TELEGKAPfI VREHS AH9OCIATIONROTORUA, Sep. 24. Last night a two-storeyed building, a combined dwelling and store, and a garage adjoining, were completely, destroyed by fire. The building was owned by*M. Board, and was occupied by Hugh Wallace Craig. The fire was discovered at 2.30 a.m., when a howling westerly gale- was blowing._ The flames cut off exit by the staircase, and Craig, his wife and six small children got through a window_ on to- the roof and were only got off just as the flames burst through. A fireman at a branch was severely scorched on the wrists. A 3000-volt power wire passes the store, and the electric staff cut off the current. Telephone, telegraph and power wires were burned through. A five-seater Studebaker car was also destroyed. There was no insurance on the ‘stock. The store was insured for £450 in the Mercantile office.
