A Brisbane message states that Sir Matthew Nathan, the retiring Governor, was accorded an enthusiastic send-off on his departure for England. He was nresented with an illuminated address by the Returned Sailors’ and Soldiers’ League. It was reported in Christchurch yesterday that Mr G. A. U. Tapper, who has been manager of the Bank of New Zea’and at Christchurch for a good many years past, has decided to retire, and that his position will be filled by Mr John McGibbon. from the head office of the bank.
