PARLIAMENT.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. (BV TELEGRAPH. PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Spt. 22. The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. to-day. The Chattels Transfer Amendment Bill, the District Courts Abolition Bil] and the Land Transfer Amendment Bill ivere read a third time and .passed. The Hon. R. F. Bollard moved the second reading of the Rating Amendment Bill, which lie said was purely a consolidating measure. The Bill was read a second time without debate. The Prime Minister moved the second reading of the Alain Highways Amendment Bill, the provisions of which he said had been agreed upon after many conferences, and the South Island was prepared to give it a trial. The Bill was read a second time.
The Eating Bill was put through committee without amendment, read a third time and passed. The House rose at 12.20 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, Sept. 22. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. to-day. The Electrical Wiremen’s Registration Bill was reported from the Labour Bills Committee with amendments. The clause providing for the deregistration of any person convicted of any offence punishable by imprisonment is deleted and the penalty is made applicable to persons imprisoned for _ offences which, in the board’s opinion, render them unfit for registration. The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Bill was also reported with amendments. The first alteration requires a resolution by the management committee of a union or association instead of a meeting of members before action may be taken by such body for the recovery of penalties under the Act. The second amendment allows six months instead of three in which a worker may claim for the recovery of wages. The Bill was passed as amended.
The Forests Amendment Bill and the Government Railways Amendment Bill were put thr.ough their final stages and passed. The Child AVelf are Bill ivas committed and leave was given to sit again. Replying to a question, Sir Francis Bell said afforestation companies were receiving no concessions of Crown lands, and the Government did not consider it should warn investors against putting money into such concerns, which involved obvious risks.,
The Council adjourned at 4.50 p.m until 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
