ORGY OF SPENDING.
EXTRAVAGANCE IN GERMANY. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRHIGT. LONDON, Sept, 20. The Berlin correspondent of the Daily Chronio'e describes an orgy of spending bv l Germans all round—people, municipalities, States and the Central Government— which brought a severe rebuke from Franz Urdig, one of the most prominent hankers, at a bankers’ conference. “Yo-u cannot lose the war and then behave in your mode of life as though you had won,” he said. Most of the speakers at the conference warned the Government against draining the country’s wealth away in heavy taxation, which is being largely nnnlied to quite useless and unprofitable schemes. Already, it- was pointed out. taxes amounted to about one-third of all the money in, circulation.
