The Hawera Fire Brigade received a call to Mr. A. D. Perkin’s house in Union Street shortly after midday yesterday. The outbreak originated i'n the woodwork surrounding the chimney, but water applied by hand rendered the brigade’s services unnecessary. Lightning struck the chimney of Mr C. H. Pawson’s house, near "the racecourse, on Saturday night, and cut it in two, one half falling on the roof. The electric system was fused in the house, but otherwise no damage was done.
