SITUATION IN SYRIA.
UNCERTAINTY PREVAILS.
BY CABLE —PEESS ASSOCIATION —COPYBIGHT. PARIS, Sep. 18. A message from Beirut states that a strong force of Druses last night attacked the French garrison at Mousseifre. The fight raged until 10 o clock in the morning, when the Druses retired, leaving several hundred dead. The French claim to have captured the Druse standard and to have suffered few casualties. Newspapers from Beirut described the situation in Jebey Druse as being as unsettled as ever. The new chief commander (General Camelin) is organising his forces to relieve the Sueida garrison, which is being _ provisioned daily in the hope that it will hold out. The Matin publishes a letter from the Archbishop of Hauran (Syria), stating that 5000 Christians of his diocese were expelled from their homes bv the Druses and are now living in the open air. Over 800 Frenchmen were killed or ai - e missing as the result of the recent fighting.
