AMUNDSEN IN GERMANY

LONDON, Sept. 19. ' The Berlin, correspondent of the Sundav Express states that a u oxmajor of the Prussian army called at Captain Roald Amundsen’s hotel. When summoned up to the latter’s room he shouted: “You sent back your German decorations in war-time. This is an offence to Germany. Unless you immediately apologise you will not be allowed to lecture in Germany.” , • ... Captain Amundsen calmly replied: “I have a son a Norwegian sailor. German submarines attacked merchant shipping'and killed many Norwegian sailors. I would act similarly again against any .Power using submarines against merchant shipping.” A number of ex-military officers pai. aded outside the theatre where Captain Amundsen was billed to lecture, carrying notices: “Boycott Amundsen. Germany’s enemy.” Nobody seemed to heed, for Captain Amundsen lectured to a full house.
