MOKOIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) PERSONAL. Manv friends in this and surrounding districts will be pleased to learn that Mr J. W. T. Thames. "Whilst resident in Ivarangahake, Mr Jones lias put much energy into organising various forms of sport, and was president of the Paeroa Rugby Union, of .which he has been made a life member. At a complimentary farewell, social the K:ii nngalialte pupils and parents presented Mr Jones with a solid leather suit case and il'uniinated address, and Mrs Jones with an afternoon tea set. hey also received a presentation from the parishioners of St. Aidan’s Church. Mr Jones was also presented with a. case of Loewe pipes by the members of the Paeroa llughy Union. The best wishes for future health and prosperity are tendered to Mr and Mrs Jones by the many friends they have made here.
THE SEASON. The weather has been so much talked about lately that there seems nothing further one can say —the only thing seems to he to grin and bear it. Olio dd resident who has known the district for many years declares he has not uenenced such a cold anti backward sluing during the past thirty years. Grass is still very scarce, and most farmers are now almost completely out of hay or roots, though at the time of writing things seem a bit milder and should show a little growth. As a consequence of the many cold winds and showers, the milk supply at the factory is not making rapid strides, and the local factory is not yet in anything like full swing. Stock, geuer--1!v speaking, is in fair condition, and If spring does decide to come forth the cows should do fairly well. A report ins made the other day that in one district —not Mokoia—the mud was so bad and the cows so weak that they had to be hauled into the shed to be milked. Certainly it has been a. trying 'Criod for dairy farmers, and it is hoped the weather clerk will soon provide us vith something congenial. DANCE. On Friday evening tlm Hall Committee gave its “wind-up” dance, and •''out 50 couples presented themselves n enjoy the very hleasant and success'll evening. Splendid music was sup■l;od bv Messrs Coburn and Foster, and Messrs S. Tidswoll and N. Hunt noted as M’s.C. The ladies provided >er in their usual excellent style. The hal funds will benefit satisfactorily ns tl.ie resnt of the dance. On Friday "wening of this week there is to be a -oncert and dance. organised by the Hawera Scottish Society, in aid of its •;ii nival candidate, and it -is hoped Tero wil' be a good muster to help it dong. Tli ( > society has been very gen-->rons on several occasions in providing 'mo concerts in aid of local endeavours, liul it- is deserving of al' support. The 'ndies have arranged to provide supper on this occasion, so patrons are assured tin that score.
