SPRING FLOWER SHOW.

AT MANAIA

A PRETTY DISPLAY

The Town Ha]] at Manaia was a scene of beauty yetserday afternoon and evening, when the whole of the flower space was occupied by the hosts of beautiful blooms, bulbs, cut flowers and decorative effects arranged by the committee at Manaia Presbyterian Church for their fifteenth annual flower show. Very large numbers of people from many parts of the ditsrict visited the show, which ineludfed also the bazaar stalls, and all thoroughly enjoyed the display. Despite the wet and cold weather of the last two months,'there was a very fine show of bulbs and other spring flowers. Amongst the former were many fine specimens. Among the large number of good bulbs, some stood out for special mention, and of these the champion bloom in the collection, shown by Mrs D. Mourie, of Gpunake. attracted much attention.

Of cut flowers there was also a very good showing. The rhododendrons were especially good, one in particular, shown by Mrs A. H. Christie, being specially fine in colour and well grown. The anemones, freezias, heath, primroses, tulips and stocks were perhaps the most noticeable in a very good collection. The decorative class was not strong in numbers, but the exhibits were very pretty and artistically arranged. And this applies also to the pot plants.

A great attraction was a collection of very fine bulbs on exhibition only from the garden of Mr 11. Gibson. They were very keenly admired. The lion, secretaries (Miss M. Mead and Mr T. A. Bvid;ge)'hachtall arrangements excellently made, and there was not a hitch in the proceedings. The stalls'were six in number, and all did excellent- business throughout- the day. They were well arranged and'well looked after, and the Attendants'had a busy time attending to the purchasers. The stallholders were •as below:— Work: Mesdaines Mclvor, G.Meuli and W. J.
