BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Sep. 17, 11.5 a.m. LONDON, Sep. 16. A wealthy Argentinian, Madame Deeasares, claiming to be the principal owner of the whiskey ship, General Serret, which was recently detained at a British port, accompanied by the police and lawyers, made a dramatic attempt ait taking possession of the ship at midnight. Standing in a rowing boat, .she shouted for “Captain Whitburn.” Instead, a burly figure, carrying a hurricane lamp came to the bulwarks, surrounded by a sullen nondescript crew, saying “I am the captain of this ship.”Madame Deeasares replied: “You are not; you are Joyce, the supercargo;. Steward, fetch the captain.’' Joyce replied; “If.you are the owner, why not pay the crew.” Madame Deeasares asserted that tney had been paid. When, a lawyer attempted, to climb aboard, the crew repulsed him thre-at-enly. _ The police .advised Madame .Deeasares to withdraw, as they feared violence. On the following day, Joyce, who has participated in four Antarctic expeditions, commenced unloading the whisky into lighters, en route to a bond store. ,The Evening News asserts that Madame Decnsare.s is the head of a oig whi.sikv running syndicate and was prepared to finance cargoes up,-to C 50.000. The ring has headquarters in Westminister.— Sydney Sun Cable.
