W.C.T.U.
Under the auspices of the W.C.T.U. a well-attended meeting was held in the Presbyterian Hall on Tuesday afternoon.’ The president urged every woman present to join the band of women who were working in the cause of prohibition. The Mayoress, in a few well-chosen words, welcomed- Mrs Barton., of Glasgow, saying she was proud to he a supporter of the temperance cause. Barton addressed the meeting trie subject of Empire builders. She Id that while men might have phycal courage women had moral cour age, and therefore women shoulc], be the moral uplifters of the world. .They called not only on the mother, hut- on the potential mother, the young women of to-day, to take part in the work in the interests of the future. They also appealed to the men to protect by their votes at the coming election the womanhood of the nation, as they appealed to the women to use their influence for the protection of the men by a solid vote for prohibition. 1 She declared that commercially, politically and economically if the liquor trade existed after the coming poll it would be at the expense of the boys and girls. She asked what about the mental, physical and moral wellbeing of the race. Was there nothing higher to offer the young than to he a sacrifice to the liquor traffic? Musical items were given during the function, and afternoon tea was served and much enjoyed. Miss Kelly returned thanks to the speaker on behalf of the meeting, and proceedings closed with the Benediction . ’
