MARCH TO GAOL.
EXTRAORDINARY INCIDENT AT WELLINGTON. ‘ ’ (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 14. t There was another phase of the seamen strikers this morping. Last week 86 of the Arawa’s crew were sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment,' and ordered to forfeit a certain amount of pay.. That the serving of warrants for arrest would he a difficult matter for the police was well understood, but the convicted men, no doubt under instructions, have solved the difficulty. During the morning 500 of the strikers formed a procession, and marched through town to the Terrace .Gaol. The sentenced men of the Arawa were at the rear. The men in procession carried banners beaming the inscription: “The Arawa’s answer.” “Good old Havelock: w© don’t think!” “Victims of Wilson’s treachery.” “We are out to win.” “The First Round.” The men sang songs en route, and on arrival at Terrace Gaol the procession opened up and the men from the Arawa marched through the lines to the gaol gates. ,-ETere they answered to their names and entered the prison portal to the accompaniment of cheers of the crowd. The whole proceeding was well odganised and extreemly orderly.
