Discarded eight years ago on the ground that it was not suitable for use on the New Zealand railways, a West- ( inghouse petrol-electric rail car which was used on the Wellington-Johnson-ville line for three years, is now receiving the attention of the Railway Department with a view to being put into service again. The car was ordered by Mr E. H. Hiley, a former genera] manager of the railways, shortly after his appointment in 1913, and, although it was claimed to be a complete success on the Johnsonville line, it was taken off the service about the middle of 1917, and since then hns remained in one of the Wellington railway yards.
