OBITUARY.
MR. T. W. ARMITAGE.

One of the best known and most esteemed residents of Manaia, Mr. T. W. Armitage, died suddenly early on Sunday morning. On Saturday he was working at his drapery business as usual, and after returning home at 12 p.m. was in liis usual good health and spirits. At 1.30 a.m., however, he complained of feeling unwell and Dr. Davies and Dr. IlosKin were sent for, but ill spite of all that c-ould. be done for him he gradually sank, and then collapsed about 4 a.m., death being due to heart failure. Up to the time of this fatal illness Mr. Armitage had always enjoyed good health; in fact, his friends had never known him to be ill. Twenty-one years ago he acquired the drapery stores at Manaia, owned by Messrs. Ambury Bros., for whom ho previously acted as local manager and built up a very successful, business. In addition to the prominent part he had always taken in the business and public life of Manaia, Mr. Armitage \vas a keen and successful bowler, being at various times president of the Manaia Club. He was also a member of the Manaia Golf Club. •- Deceased was of a very kindly and charitable disposition, and during his long residence in Manaia., made many* friends and no enemies. He married Miss Washer, daughter of Mr. Washer, senr., of Inaha, and leaves a widow and two children. Y r ery sincere sympathy -will, be felt towards them. ' . . "
