CROQUET.
The game of croquet is A'cry popular amongst the ladies of the province. A distinct, fillip Avas given to the game by the holding of the Taranaki championship in Hawera last season. A further increase in interest must result from the holding of the Dominion championships in New Plymouth this year.
There have been a number of ne,w players come to Hawera this year, and all look forward to a very good’ season., Conditions would be considerably improved in the Hawera Club if they could-get the use ; of another fullsized lawn, because the playing on small lawns is apt to spoil play from a championship point of view. There are not many men players, and, generally speaking, those who do play are good. Members will remember the fine play last year of Mr. Meredith (Wanganui), and also of Mr. Clague (Manaia) and Mr. Horner (Patea). If Mr. Meredith enters for the Dominion championships he will probably meet Mr. Ross, the southern champion, and their matches will produee fine play and bp worth going a long way to see.
