IvAPONGA CLUB. The annual meeting of the Kaponga Tennis Club was held in the Kaponga Town Hall on. Thursday evening. Ml' J. Hessell (retiring president), occupied the chair. Reviewing the year, the president intimated that since the last general meeting the sum of £34 had been expended in repairs and alterations to the courts and grounds. Unfortunately the court that was top-dressed was, owing to the breaking up of the foundations, again in a very had state, and' the incoming committee was recommended to lay the court afresh. As was the custom of the club, the courts had been open to members for winter play, and a number had taken advantage" of this opportunity to keep in practice. Ihiring the season the “A” team had played seven inter.-club matches with .the Manaia, Opunake, Eltham, Mangatoki and Te Ngutu Clubs, and had won five. The club had lost several members owing fo their departure froip . the. district, hut new members had made up the defections, and the present membership of 70 showed a slight increase compared with the total at the commencement of the year. Unfortunately one of the members who had left the district was the honorary secretary (Air H. J. Edwards), whose previous work had been of great assistance to the club. Air R. C. Hill had been appointed ,to succeed him as honorary secretary, and had proved an exceedingly capable official. To both of the gentlemen mentioned the club, wished to acknowledge thanks £or services rendered. Though the substantial credit balance shown in the balance-sheet adopted at the previous general meeting had been decreased, the financial position was still sound, the balance-sheet to be put before the meeting showing a sliuht credit. In conclusion, the president expressed the hope that the club would prosper and that all members would b n enabled to take an active part in the game during the com:mT season. The balance-sheet was adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Patron, l3r. AI. M. Hockin; president, All* L. J. Loftus; vice-president, Mr J. Lennane; club captain, Air J. Lennane; honorary secretary, Mr W. S. Montgomery; committee, Alesdames W. B. Fearon, C. S. Hill, Miss M. Evans, and Alessrs J. Hessell, R. C. Hill and J. Paterson. It was decided that the subscription be the same as previously, viz.—ladies 15s and gentlemen 25s each, reducible by 5s if paid by November ,1. * The following new members were elected: Alesdames E. Boyle and S. C. Knight, Misses R. Swindling and M. Evans. • Thursday, September 24, was fixed as the opening day, it being resolved to organise a- tournament to mark the event. AIATCH RULE AMENDED. On the proposal of Alessrs Alontgomery and Lennane it was decided to amend the ride governing the club ladder matches so as to provide for the application of the advantage set system, with a minimum of six games in ladies’ and nine in men’s matches, such matches to be decided in one set; the winner in ladies’ matches to be declared only when the leading player has a margin of at least two games when or after six have been secured, and the same conditions to apply to men’s .matches, except that the respective number of games be nine. The unsatisfactory results from the employment of working- bees in important work on the courts was stressed during, a brief discussion, and it was decided that in future such work be undertaken only, under expert supervision. .. Votes of thank? to. all outgoing officers concluded' the meeting.
