TICKLE-TOE TYPISTS.
“BETTER SCOPE ON STAGE.” EXCHANGE WITH BALLET BELLES. LONDON, Sept. 3. Andre Chariot, the revue producer, considering that business girls are prettier and more attractive, and have daintier ankles than many already on the stage, organised a Sunday morning theatre parade of 300 girls, whose employment prevented tlieir application for stage work on other, days of the week. The girls appeared on the stage six at a time, and were tried out in high kicking and singing. Air. Chariot chose eight, giving them immediate contracts at £5 a week. Two, aged 20, will go to AmericaOne of these is a city typist, and the other a dancing instructress, who brought her younger sister, but who had not dreamt of being chosen lierse If. Air. Chariot remarked : “I won’t be popular for bringing more girls into the profession, but many girls now ou the stage would be better in offices, while many in humble commercial jobs would make a name behind tlie footlights.”
