The Paris correspondent of the Daily Express says the powerful 'drives which Marshal Petain’s 150,000 troops are preparing on an extensive front is being preceded by a tex*rific cannonade, which is devastating the Riff trenches and blockhouses, while aeroplanes are dropping thousands of bombs on the Riff positions. French aviators report that the Riffs are fleeing in all directions. The French advance begins at dawn to-morrow. The Paris correspondent of the Daily Chronicle says Abd-el-Krim (the .Riff leader) recognises that his existence is at stake and defeat means good-bye to Riff independence. When he fought his enemies singly be forced the Spaniards to evacuate a large area, and then he inflicted a series of defeats on the French. France and Spain have now learned military wisdom, and have combined to smash the common enemy. The great battle now raging is calculated to be decisive. It may bo the end of Abd-el-Krim and the Riffian army. MADRID, Sep. 10. Mellila reports state that a new feint landing was effected between Sididris and Cape Quilates with the co-operation of a French squadron. The battleship Paris, with General Sanjurjo on board, approached the coast in such a way as to give the imoression at a certain moment that she had grounded, the idea being to unmask the Riffian fire. This proved successful. The Paris withdrew, and with sister ships began a bombardment. Two guns are known to be dismantled. A COMPLICATION. . RISE OF THE ANGORAS. LONDON, Se,pt. 11. A Daily Mail correspondent reports: The Angora tribe, which up to the present has been quiet, has now revolted, against the Spanish and is entrenching eight miles from Tangier. COMMUNICATION PERIL. SPANISH OUTPOSTS ATTACKED. LONDON, Sep. 11. The Angora rising threatens the Tangier and 1 Tetuan communication. The tribesmen engaged in fierce allnight encounters with the Spanish outposts in the forests adjoining the Teuan roads.'
